Time for a Change on Capitol Hill

Our current Congress certainly proves Einstein’s definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

From 1964 through 2008, the reelection rates in the House of Representatives averaged 93%, in the Senate, 82%. The only significant departure from the average was in the Carter years when the reelection rate for Senators dropped to an average of 60%.

Too many people keep sending too many corrupt politicians back to Congress because they mistakenly believe it serves their own selfish interests. One does not need to look any farther than Johnstown Pennsylvania to understand this point. Rep. Murtha has been in the House since 1974 and steered nearly $200 million of taxpayer’s money to the airport boondoggle that bears his name. It serves three flights a day to DC.

It is a shame to see this exploitation of hope that today’s career politicians use to stay in power. What astonishes me is that those being exploited never seem to realize that generations of them have been promised a better life by these politicians and yet they are still living as they always have.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment is running 20 percent higher in states won by Obama versus states won by McCain.

Ask yourselves, are you really better off for having voted for Democrats? You can keep hoping that these “promise them anything to get elected” politicians will make life better for you, but decades from now you will still just be hoping.

It is time for people who habitually vote Democrat to exercise that little bit of control that each of us have over our destiny and vote Republican for a few elections. (By the way, I’m a conservative independent.)

Then if it still does not improve your life, you will at least know you tried an alternative.

After all, it can’t get any worse
