Election 2014

In his farewell address, President George Washington warned us that political parties could “become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government.”

President Washington’s fear has become reality as a result of America devolving into a nation where the majority of citizens are apathetic to determining governance. Over the years, more than 100 people have served in Congress longer than 36 years and 6 longer than 50 years. We the people have allowed political parties working as “potent engines” to achieve this dubious distinction through our apathy.

The result — the U.S. Sovereign debt was downgraded for the first time in American history, Federal Spending as a percentage of GDP is the highest since World War II, Federal Debt as percentage of GDP is the highest since World War II, percentage of population working is lowest since 1978, long-term unemployment highest since 1930’s, home ownership rate lowest since 1965, percentage of taxpayers actually paying taxes lowest in modern era, and Government dependency rate highest in American history.

It is time to say “no more”. We must take the reins of government out of the hands of unprincipled politicians and reestablish our nation’s rightful destiny. Our challenge is to identify those who serve us and those who serve only themselves.

This November I’m picking up my reins to vote for Ed Gillespie for Senate and Rob Wittman for the 1st District House seat. Not because of any affiliation they have with the Republican Party, but because I believe they are the ones most likely to work to get our nation back to the ideals of a constitutional republic.
